Catch of the Day*: Surprising Snow
Cooley Landing Park, Palo Alto, CA
3/2023
You’ve probably been reading about the recent historic snowfalls in California. Where I am now in Los Altos Hills, I have not witnessed a single snowflake. But in the Diablo and Santa Cruz Mountain ranges on the east and west of the San Francisco Bay snow fell, causing downed trees, impassible roads and power outages. Southern California and the Sierras had it much worse with many feet of snow.
I went to Cooley Landing Park a few days ago to see what birds were there and was treated to great views of the snow atop the Diablo range, including Mount Hamilton which is home to Lick Observatory.
(*What I call “Catch of the Day” postings are entries that are short, with 1-3 photographs, and relate to relatively recent experiences.)
