Catch of the Day – Merriam’s Chipmunk on Burnt Redwood

This Merriam’s Chipmunk sat in a crevice of a badly burned but still living large redwood tree. The base of all the redwoods around us on our property were seared into charcoal from the 2020 CZU wildfire. This chipmunk was certainly a pup from the litter I photographed earlier this summer, one of “the new kids on the block.”
