The name Curt Gowdy was vaguely familiar to me, but Chris recognized him right away as the well-know sportscaster. Born and raised in the southeastern part of Wyoming, the state is very proud of him. Curt, in turn, was very proud to have a state park named for him. Before my long tenure in Massachusetts, he had been the voice of the Boston Red Sox.
We were looking for a place to camp near Cheyenne before we headed to Boulder, Colorado. This park boasted lakes as well as mountain bike and hiking trails so it fit our bill. I was hoping for more wildflowers and wasn’t disappointed. But I did not know then that this would be the wildflower season’s last big hurrah.
- You can see where it got its name. It is also called Palmer’s Pestemon
- Also called Cowboy’s Delight
